Shebana Coelho
Performance artist, writer & creativity workshop facilitator
Performance artist, writer, and facilitator of creativity workshops, originally from India and based in New Mexico. Mad for wild open spaces and story-poems under the skin. Founder of Faraway is Close workshops - because our creativity and the wild lands within are closer than we think. Since 2012, she has presented solo plays and facilitated workshops in New Mexico, the A:shiwi (Zuni) community, Palestine, Mongolia, American Samoa, Ireland, and Spain. Her work has been supported by the New York Foundation for the Arts, a Fulbright grant to Mongolia, Creative Europe, and CEC ArtsLink. Her solo plays, including The Good Manners of Colonized Subjects and Once I Was a Stone, premiered at New York's Pan Asian Rep Theatre.
At its core, her work weaves writing, playfulness, movement, and nature to liberate and reclaim our lost connection to trees, stones, memory, myth, and voice. Connect with her at shebanacoelho.com
